DESH SEWAK , a leading Punjabi daily of Punjab, was started on January 1, 1996 from Chandigarh. A non-profit body ‘Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna Trust’ was founded under the patronage of India’s veteran national leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet to start a Punjabi newspaper committed to secular and democratic ideals. It was started with the aim of creating an alternative media in Punjab.

Name Desh Sewak has a linkage with India’s freedom struggle. A newspaper of this name was launched from Jalandhar in 1927 which was later banned by the British government. Present DESH SEWAK gets inspiration from that legacy of India’s revolutionary movement.
During last 10 years DESH SEWAK has gone a long way in the promotion of these ideals and now emerged as a powerful mouthpiece of the common masses.
